What is Kava?

Kava, also known as Piper Methysticum, kava kava, and ‘awa, is a small shrub native to the islands in the South Pacific. The root is made into a non-alcoholic beverage that has been used socially and ceremonially for over 3,000 years in Hawaii, Fiji, and Tonga.

The effects of kava can be felt within 5 minutes, and last for about 3-5 hours. Some report longer-term effects, including a feeling of mental clarity, patience, and an ease of acceptance for days after ingestion. Some effects include:
